To celebrate the beginning of 2014 we wanted to give away a custom illustration by Juan Arias and also help someone fulfill their new year’s resolution.
In Japan these dolls are used as a reminder and motivation to achieve goals or complete tasks. The owner of the doll paints a round pupil on the right eye when he establishes his goal; when this is achieved he can proceed and paint the other eye’s pupil. A singled eyed Daruma tends to be situated where it can be visible. In this way, it will be a constant reminder of the work that needs to be done in order to achieve the objective. This dolls also represent optimism, persistence and determination.
